A Series of Unfavorable Happenings: The Wrap Up

Part 3: My happy ending...

I know everyone is just on the edge of their seats waiting to here how this saga ends. Okay, the 2 people (besides Jason) that I know have read this probably are anyways...

Fast forward 2 years and a few months... Jason and I set a pretty small budget for Christmas this year. We have a lot of baby things to buy in the next few months and we also wanted to buy a laptop for Christmas. I was totally fine with pinching pennies this year. In fact, I've become quite the tight wad since finding out about our little addition.

So when Jason starting hinting that he may have gone a "little" over budget for Christmas this year I started to wonder what it could be. He said the money he used was money I never knew about so I didn't need to worry. Okay- Money I never knew about? 1-That sounds so shady and 2- Is it okay to hide money from your spouse? In his defense, I'm pretty much a control freak about our money so if he was going to spend any extra it would have definitely had to have been hid from me.He wouldn't tell me how much over budget he went or exactly where the money came from either. So a few days before Christmas when he put my present under the tree, the wheels of my little mind were spinning.

Have you ever read the 5 Love Languages? Well I haven't (and Jason won't ever let me forget it because he read it and thinks he's an expert now) but I get the gist of it. I definitely feel love by receiving gifts- it's my parent's fault. So this mysterious, surprise gift was very intriguing and somewhat annoying to me.

I started guessing on December 22nd. My first guess was a laptop, my second guess was a Wii because that's a little cheaper than a laptop and we've been going back and forth on buying one for a few years now. My third guess (after I shook the box) was an I phone. After each guess Jason would tell me to lower my expectations and honestly I believed him. So my very last guess, after all of my hope for an amazingly awesome surprise present had diminished, was all of the Josh Groban CDs. (which were also taken from my car 2 years earlier). Jason said that was a little more in the price range of the present. AND I believed him... I think I'm a little more gullible with pregnancy.

So when he suggested on Christmas Eve that we open our presents that night I was excited to finally know what this annoying present was, but I had no idea he would be so sneaky and surprise me with a new Oliver... I mean a new camera! (I'm not naming my possessions anymore.)
That's right! I...I mean, WE are now the proud owners of a Nikon D3100, 14 megapixel, 1080 HD video taking SLR. I didn't think we would own another camera like Oliver for years! Jason said we "needed" it for when the baby comes. Which just goes to show how much compromising happens in marriage. Jason is a very need oriented person and I'm...well...not. So for him to justify this purchase as a "need"... I think I've had a little influence on him, whether that's good influence or bad, I'm not admitting.

I think the loss of Oliver has made me very protective of this new nameless camera. In fact, Jason misplaced the lens cap at my Dad's house on Christmas morning and it took about all of the self control I had not to have a big freak out. I actually had to leave the room until he found it. One thing is for sure, I will not be leaving this camera in the car... ever. Now I need to find a good, quick, and cheap photography class so I can brush up on my skills before Harper bean comes.

Who says you can only have one true love in a lifetime?????

That is awesome! I got a new camera right after I had Darius and that is what I got for christmas this year too. You do "need" a good one when you have cute kids you want to capture all the time! Enjoy it!

I didn't know if it was ok to laugh or cry during part 1-3. You, my dear always entertain me with your stories. I was a D60 owner at one time and graduated and switched "loves" when Tucker bought me my 1st full frame CANON. I know... I'm a trader. But I love "her". No name.. just gender ;) Congrats on your current new addition.. your other new addition will appreciate you guys making the purchase to document ever, scream, blow out, play, eat, blink and step he takes. We really should get together. Say... before these babies come and rearrange our lifes, schedules and little bit of social life we own :) hope all is well!

I have a dinosaur in my car named Oliver. I got him from a Kirt's kids meal probably in 2006 since I've had my car. I would be sad if my oliver were gone too...however the monetary value is much less. And he's sorta a funny color now from the sun. Sorta has nothing to do with your story except for the name! But yeah for a new camera!
